HR 218 Qualification Course

Welcome to LCRLEOA, your trusted source for HR 218 qualification courses in South Carolina's Low Country region.

 

HR 218 allows qualified law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms across state lines. Our comprehensive courses ensure you meet the necessary qualifications and stay updated on the requirements.

The HR 218 qualification course is for LCRLEOA members only.

LCRLEOA HR 218 Training and Qualification

The LCRLEOA HR 218 live fire annual qualification is approved and certified by the Bluffton Police Department and takes place at the OPFOB Range in Ridgeland, SC. Dates and registration information for 2026 will be posted here soon.

Equipment:

  • Weapon - .38/9MM or larger (must be weapon you are going to carry or similar type). Firearms must be in unloaded safe condition, cleared and cased or bagged-slide/cylinder open – no magazine inserted.

  • 50 rounds of regular factory ammunition – BRASS CASED ONLY (no manufactured or reloaded ammo).

  • Belt – 1 1⁄2 inches wide to retain required outside belt holster – (no inside the pants holsters allowed).

  • Eye and ear protection required.

  • Speed loaders permitted for revolvers.

  • Two magazines necessary for those qualifying with semi-automatics; however, three are recommended.

  • B27 police targets will be provided.


The following will take place at the range:

 

  • Inspection of Firearms

  • Range safety and range rules

  • Qualification standard, explanation and related information

  • HR 218 official qualification – 50 rounds, live fire (see course of fire)


Certifying police department:

  • Bluffton Police Department

If you possess extra ammo, you are strongly encouraged to practice prior to this class. There will be no practice rounds during the qualification session. The qualification includes timed fire from the ready position and from the holster.

​

For all training sessions:

  • Mode of Dress – proper attire for an outdoor range and bring a rain jacket in case of inclement weather. No flip flops, sandals, or other open shoes. No tank tops or low cut shirts, blouses, or loose, dangling jewelry.

  • REQUIRED: Retired police officers – Official retirement photo ID from your department and drivers license should be submitted with registration.

Again, it is strongly recommended that you practice prior to the qualification session.
